I finally got the chance to see Persepolis last night.
Persepolis is the story of Marjane, a young girl born to an aristocratic Iranian family during the reign of the Shah. As adolescence hits Marjane, the Islamic Revolution hits Iran.
The film is a coming of age story about a precocious and independent Iranian girl who becomes a woman...ultimately it is about just trying to fit in: as a woman in a restrictive society or in a western world that hates Muslims, Persepolis allows an insider glimpse into the culture and politics of Iran. Timely and important Persepolis points out that not all Iranians, like Americans, are blindly complacent and following their leaders.
