The Lives They Lived
"With a new year in sight, we have another opportunity to take note of some of the lives that ended in the past 12 months. This is our 15th annual Lives They Lived issue, and as always, we do not try to be comprehensive or definitive in our choices of the people evoked within these pages. Instead, this is an unabashedly idiosyncratic collection, driven by the interests, passions and whims of our editors and writers. We hope you are moved, tickled, intrigued and provoked by reading about these 24 very different lives, all memorably lived."
It may seem morbid but one of my favorite things about getting ready for the new year is to read the NY Times Magazine- The Way They Lived issue. I always tear up sad that they are gone... but am reminded of how to live. Also missed will be Bettie Page, Paul Newman, David Foster Wallace,Eartha Kitt, Harriet McBryde Johnson, Mildred Loving, Heath Ledger, Robert Rauschenberg, Yves Saint Laurent, Anthony Minghella, Tim Russert, Larry Harmon. Les Schobert, George Carlin, Estelle Getty, and Sandy Allen who at 7 feet, 7 1/4 inches tall, she was recognized as the tallest woman in the world. Lots of loss with too many more that should be mentioned, but also should be remembered.
