Florencia Levy at Centraltrak

Mulcahy Modern artist Florencia Levy will be showing work at Centraltrak tonight! Her work is poetic and beautiful just like the artist. I've been looking forward to this show which includes work created during her residency at Centraltrak. Commute Portraits opens tonight January 30 at 6pm and runs through March 18.

"Argentine artist in residence Florencia Levy returns to Centraltrak for an exhibition of her project based on highway commutes within the Metroplex. Levy documented the automotive way of life in D/FW through interviews, videos and photographs made during her short stay at Centraltrak during summer 2008."

I am so sad.

I just heard Domino Magazine is folding. I love that magazine and am so sad to hear the news. It was my little piece of happiness each month. Voyeur to nice things and other worlds. Domino you will be missed.

Obama 44th President of the United States!

Amazing day filled with such joy and celebration embodied by a man who is simultaneously practical, hopeful, and intelligent. We watched the ceremony with a group at Conduit Gallery in Dallas, TX. Waving our flags and playing along as if we were in DC. Nancy and Danette do amazing things to bring the art community together and this is just another one of their pro-active events. My favorite moment was seeing Malaya taking a photo of her father as he was sworn in to office. So many moments actually. What an amazing speak! Somber while energizing... What a historic moment to witness. Now for "quiet progression".
Click on this: NYTimes link for more and a video of his speak. Also check out this past weekend's fabulous NY Times Magazine portrait edition of OBAMA'S People.

Freedom and hope for ALL.

photo via the bbc website.
NPR has a great story with sound and video of MLK's last prophetic "Mountain top"speech .
Here is an excerpt:
"Well, I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter with me now, because I've been to the mountaintop. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life — longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over, and I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. So I'm happy, tonight. I'm not worried about anything, I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord." — the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

More nice things in Seattle.

noah simblist

Noah gave a lecture at the University of Washington last night. It was an amazing lecture that reminded me what a talented and active artist and writer he is. You can see examples of his work on his website: noahsimblist.com It was strange and wonderful to be back in the art building we'd first met in over 10 years ago. I was proud and simultaneously learned new things about Noah and his work. Later the faculty took us out to a fabulous dinner at our friend Brad's restaurant, Brad's Swingside Cafe. As always the food was AMAZING and Brad spoiled us with dish after dish coming out of the kitchen. The aglio olio pasta and stuffed swordfish should not be missed. Thanks Brad and Helen. What a nice way to return to the UW even if it was as the "wife".

Spending a week in Seattle visiting friends, post college memories, and my old college stopping grounds.
First thing to remember:

Second thing:
The coffee and cafes' are amazing. Check.
Already hit 3 of my favorite spots Macrina Bakery and Aqua Verde.
Plus way too much coffee in a good way. Visited Allegro Cafe in the U District. The oldest coffee house in Seattle. Now I remember what a good cup of coffee tastes like!
