RIP Eva Zeisel
Eva Zeisel, a ceramic artist whose elegant, eccentric designs for dinnerware in the 1940s and ’50s helped to revolutionize the way Americans set their tables, died on Friday in New City, N.Y. She was 105. An amazing life and career. She was a favorite of mine. Read more of her NYTimes obituary here...

A fashion revolutionary Chanel
A fashion revolutionary of the more distant past was also on the tip of everyone’s tongue this year, thanks to a host of dueling biographies discussing Coco Chanel’s high-profile love affairs and wartime activities. But Jerome Gautier’s Chanel: A Vocabulary of Style (Yale) focuses exclusively on her enduring influence, captured in classic images by Richard Avedon and Patrick Demarchelier, as well as thoughtful juxtapositions of old (Cecil Beaton’s iconic portrait of Chanel) and new (a Karl Lagerfeld–clad Cate Blanchett).
